For the first time, a rare ice disk appeared in the city of Ulanhot in China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region when the temperature here was extremely low.
A rare ice disc appears on the surface of the Taoer River in the city of Ulanhot , south of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China. This amazing natural phenomenon usually occurs when the temperature drops to extremely low in Canada or the Arctic.
The ice disc is spinning on the surface of the Taoer River.
According to the video image, many curious people flocked to see the ice disc spinning on the surface of the Taoer River. This phenomenon occurs when the temperature in the city of Ulanhot is very low.
“The Taoer River has kept the same flow for four years in a row when the inflow is stable and the flow is also stable. The water in the river is very clear and the water quality is very clean. You can see there is no trash on the tape. This is one of the reasons ice discs can form on the river,” said Yan Xiuping, an official with the water management agency in the city of Ulanhot.
As can be seen, the ice disc on the Taoer River rotates quite gently around the surrounding ice block. Seen from above, the tape disc has a rather round shape and looks like a clock face.
According to scientific research, the water flowing underground under the glacier can create eddy shear forces, breaking the iceberg above and causing it to rotate. During rotation, the friction force formed at the edge of the ice disc causes it to have a perfect circular shape.
While this particular natural phenomenon has previously only appeared in Canada or the Arctic, it has recently been seen in Heilongjiang Province and Hulunbuir City in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. But this is the first time the tape has appeared in the city of Ulanhot.
