People since ancient times have consciously built houses in remote places such as on islands surrounded by lakes, rivers or even oceans to protect their homes. Here is a list of the world’s picturesque inhabited micro-islands.

2. Vilgelmshteyn Island located in Hannover Germany looks like a picture of a beautiful landscape. The island is located in Lake Steinhuder Meer, northwest Germany. Duke Wihelm of the Schaumburg-Lippe family built a fortress on the island to protect his small land. This island is actually a man-made structure with a rock foundation that was transported here by local fishermen by their boats. Today the island has become a museum and a tourist attraction.

4. The island of Mont Saint-Michel in France has a castle. The island of Mont Saint-Michel is a rocky island, located near the mouth of the Couesnon river. The population of this island is 44 people, it has been a strategic fortification since ancient times. From the 8th century AD, a monastery was built and the name of the island is also named after the monastery. The island of Mont Saint-Michel and the surrounding bay is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The island attracts 3 million tourists every year.

13. Palatinate Island – Germany .
