Your nose will shrink when you lie

When a person lies, the nose will shrink and the temperature of the tip of the nose will decrease by about 1.2 degrees Celsius and the forehead will increase by 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Dr Emilio Gómez Milán of the University of Granada, Spain, said that when a person’s nose is lying, it will shrink, not lengthen as in the story of the boy Pinocchio.

According to Sciencedaily, Emilio’s team conducted a lie test on 60 volunteers. They have to call their parents or relatives and lie for 3 to 4 minutes. During this time, the volunteer’s body is continuously scanned using infrared thermal technology.

As a result, the researchers found that when people are dishonest, the temperature of the tip of the nose is reduced by 1.2 degrees Celsius and the forehead is increased by 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Dr. Emilo explains that when we lie, the temperature around the nose decreases and a brain factor called the insula is activated. The insula is a component of the brain system involved in detecting and regulating body temperature. It only activates when we experience real emotions.

“This phenomenon has caused the human nose to shrink. The change is quite small so it is difficult for the naked eye to notice,” Mr. Emilio said.

Infrared heat technology detected temperature changes in 80% of the participants. This method is more accurate than lie detectors, helping scientists reduce errors when performing experiments, Dr. Emilio shared.
