It is estimated that about 65% of the world’s population will have wisdom teeth, during which time pain and discomfort are inevitable.

Human teeth have many different types such as incisors, canines, molars…. and wisdom teeth is the name for our third molars. Usually, they will grow around the time a person is 17-25 years old.

However, in some different locations, wisdom teeth also have a different meaning!

The closest to the above meaning is that in Spain, it is called “Muela de juicio” , this is considered a milestone marking adulthood, the age when you can take legal responsibility for yourself. This has similarities with its Portuguese neighbours.

Other than that, we can mention Indonesia, it is called “Gigi bungsu” , which means youngest brother because based on the fact, it grows much later than other brothers and has the youngest age.

The most special is probably in Korea, the name of the wisdom tooth is “Sa-rang-nee” , different from the meaning given above, here, people refer to youth and the pain of first love. That makes perfect sense because normally, perhaps true first loves take place at these 17-25 years old!
