Where does space begin?
Space begins at the Karman Line, which is 62 miles (100 km) above the Earth.
This is the height you need to reach to become an astronaut. Humans can’t survive in space, but are protected by layers of gas that surround the Earth.
These layers are called the atmosphere.
What is it like for astronauts in space?
Moon jumper
On the Earth, there is a force called gravity, which keeps everything on the ground.
This force is not as strong on the moon, so astronauts can jump really high.
Floating around
Astronauts float around in the International Space Station because there is no gravity.
They can do somersaults and have to push and pull their way around.
