Photographer Jack Lee took this impressive sea sunset image with a blue halo appearing on the Sun in the Cook Islands, Pacific Ocean, August 2017, Story Trender reported. Lee shared the photo on social media last week and attracted a lot of attention.

Realizing that the conditions were optimal, he quickly took pictures as the Sun began to set, gradually disappearing under the ocean. He successfully captured the moment when the blue light flashed at the edge of the Sun, where it was in contact with the sea, before the Sun disappeared from view.

“I was very fortunate to capture this scene that is almost invisible to the naked eye. It happened very quickly, in just a moment,” Lee shared. The sky was clear then and he started shooting quickly as the sun went down. Although he had never witnessed this phenomenon before, he had thoroughly investigated it before.

The rare sighting occurs because the atmosphere turns sunlight into red, green and blue colors, depending on the angle. When the sky is clear, the lucky people can catch a glimpse of the blue halo directly above the Sun for a brief moment at dusk or dawn.
