'Robot feeding sick people' wins first prize for scientific research student

Seeing that many patients, the elderly, and the disabled could not eat and drink on their own, the group of boys invented a support machine called Feedbod.

On the afternoon of December 16, at the closing ceremony and awarding ceremony of Scientific Research Students in 2017, the organizers awarded 9 first prizes to groups of students doing research in six fields of natural science, engineering and technology. , medicine, agriculture, society and humanities.

In particular, the product of an automatic feeding machine for patients by a group of students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Technical Education, Ho Chi Minh City, attracted a lot of attention because of its uniqueness.

According to Tran Tan Thanh – the group’s representative, the idea was devised by a student in the group when someone in the family was sick and could not take care of themselves. The device in mind will then help the patient eat and drink on his own without the constant support of loved ones.

The machine has two main parts, the feeding arm and the food tray. The arm has two control motors, the wheel has a motor and a central microcontroller to control the above motors.

When receiving the signal from the remote control, the central microcontroller makes the three motors run according to the set cycle. The user can adjust the height of the arm to suit the body, the food tray can rotate, helping the patient choose the dish.

“This device, in addition to supporting sick people at home, elderly people at nursing centers, can also help people with stroke, Parkinson’s disease, polio, disabled people. We are raising plans for this device. products become mass-produced, serving more people,” the group’s representative shared.

This year’s Scientific Research Student Award is awarded by four agencies, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations. jointly organized.

The organizing committee received 336 scientific research topics for the award, selected from thousands of topics from 77 universities and academies.

The goal of the award is to encourage students to participate in scientific research and apply their acquired knowledge to solve real-life problems.
