New record for the world's largest pillow cake

The Guinness Book of World Records has recorded the largest pillow cake made in London weighing 153.1kg.

Officials from the Guinness World Records organization personally witnessed the kneading and baking process, and certified this giant cake had passed the necessary tests. Mr. Pravin Patel, from Guinness World Records, stated: “This product looks and tastes like a pillow cake and is edible.”

He added that the record that the cake scored was its weight: 153.1kg. The previous record was a pillow cake weighing 110.8 kg, set by Bradford School in North England in June 2012.

The head of the project, Farid Islam, said he was excited about the project, but was also worried that the cake would break in the process. This is a very difficult challenge, he admits.

Volunteers from the Aid UK Muslim Humanitarian Relief Fund took 15 hours to make this giant pillow cake at a mosque in East London. The cake was divided into hundreds of small pieces to be distributed to the homeless in the area through the Salvation Army.
