Earth Science: Human
From a biological point of view human beings are grouped with mammals, more specifically with the great apes. However, humans hold a special place because of their highly developed brain. The human brain made it possible to cultivate complex languages and thus pass
along new knowledge from generation to generation.
The ability to solve practical problems—analyzing factors in the environment and then altering them to achieve a desired goal—also distinguishes human beings from other living things. In addition to their highly developed brain, humans have other special anatomical
features, for instance, the intricate larynx that allows them to form the great variety of sounds involved in spoken language.
