The Russian State Archives on March 27 released the first images of the scene of the plane crash that killed famous cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. The sudden death of an internationally recognized hero, the idol of the Soviet youth, the first person to fly into space shocked many people at that time.

Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin and test pilot Vladimir Seregin died 55 years ago in a tragic accident . The two were flying a MiG-15UTI training aircraft on March 27, 1968 during a routine flight, when the plane suddenly crashed and crashed in the Vladimir Region of Russia.

Mr. Gagarin and his comrade Seregin were killed on the spot, while the MiG-15UTI was severely damaged.

The official cause of the crash has never been released, leading to various theories ranging from pilot error to a collision with a hot air balloon, even an encounter with an unidentified flying object ( UFOs).

The photos released on March 27 were taken by the Investigative Committee a day after the accident. The image shows the wreckage of the plane scattered at the scene. But they shed no more light on the passing of the world’s first astronaut.

In addition, a photo of Mr. Gagarin’s funeral was also released. He and his teammates were cremated the day after his death. Their ashes were interred in Red Square after a state funeral.
