The river has two colors that do not mix in Brazil

The Negro and Amazon rivers confluence in a section of 6km, their water colors do not mix, but create two separate black – fawn patches.

About 10km west of Manaus in Brazil is the Negro River (Black River). This river flows along the city and confluence with the Amazon River. Although these two rivers confluence for 6km, the colors of these two rivers do not mix.

Instead, the black of the Negro and the fawn of the Amazon are still flowing parallel to each other, dividing the water into two colors. The Brazilians have called this phenomenon Encontro das Aguas (the meeting of two waters).

This phenomenon of confluence but not confluence occurs in many rivers around the world, but nowhere is as dramatic as here, according to Amusing Planet.

The Negro River is the largest tributary of the Amazon River, and the largest river with black water in the world. According to scientists, the color of the river is due to the water’s high acidity and low silt. The water of the Amazon River has a lot of mud and sand, so it is yellow-brown.

Due to the different composition of the water, these two rivers “resolutely” refuse to join the stream. A few other reasons are that they differ in flow rate and water temperature. The Negro River has a flow of 2km/h, the water temperature is 28 degrees Celsius. The Amazon River has a faster flow speed, 5km/h but the temperature is colder, about 22 degrees Celsius.

6km downstream, the eddies in the Amazon River eventually merge the two rivers as they merge and become the Lower Amazon River.

It is also thanks to this unique natural phenomenon that it has become a popular tourist attraction in Manaus. Dozens of tour companies in Manaus offer boat trips to the location where the two rivers meet. The best time to travel is between January and July, when the rivers are full of water.
