This salt mine was formed 250 million years ago, at the bottom of the sea, the salt material is as solid as rock. When the sea dried up, it left a large cave with a huge amount of salt, due to fluctuations in the earth’s crust.
The salt mines form a small city called Soledar , which means “gift of salt”.
This place used to be considered a salt mining granary since the 16th century, when salt was condensed by burning fire to evaporate water vapor.
The process of mining salt by burning wood leads to deforestation. It was then mined with coal, but the production scale was still low. Under the electric light it shimmered like a gem.
By the 19th century, it was exploited on an industrial scale to ensure both productivity and resources.
After more than 100 years of mining, the mine has become a 300m long tunnel, many places turned into a luxurious painting, music, etc room under the hands of workers-artists.
It even has a football field, a church, a bar for workers to form a closed complex.
Cold, dry air containing small amounts of salt dust is said to have therapeutic effects.
