Patient Mijo Vodopija, from Croatia, had a nearly 4cm long tooth extracted by dentist Dr Max Lukas at a clinic in the German city of Mainz in September after complaining of severe toothaches.
“The patient has swelling in the mouth,” says Dr. Lukas.
He added: ‘The tooth looks so long in the X-ray, it’s unbelievable.
“The tooth had to be removed immediately because there was no other treatment,” says Dr Max Lukas. Signs of infection are also found inside the tooth and can lead to dangerous complications if it is not removed.
This newly extracted tooth is the longest ever, according to Guinness World Records.
The tooth is half a millimeter longer than the tooth of the previous record holder from India, and of course the image of this tooth will appear in the next edition of the Guinness Book of Records.
X-ray of the patient’s teeth showed an abnormally long tooth.
As for the dentist Lukas, he is happy about it, he said: “Every dentist in the world will read about it”. He currently holds the tooth but says he is in contact with the owner in hopes of hanging a copy of the world record certificate in the office.
