90% of the world's data was created in the last 2 years

Currently, the world is generating about 2.5 quintillion bytes of data every day, and this number is still increasing.

It is estimated that about 90% of the world’s data today was created within the past two years, averaging 2.5 quintillion bytes (trillion billion bytes) per day. As the number of connections increases, the amount of data generated is also increasing, especially in the coming years.

According to Domo Company (USA)’s statistics for the 5th year in a row about the volume of data and online behavior around the world in an Infographic “Sleepless Data 5.0”, the percentage of the world’s population Internet use has increased by 7.5% compared to 2016, currently estimated at 3.7 billion people. In the United States alone, an average of 2,657,700 gigabytes of data is generated every minute.

In recent years, the media and Internet services have achieved strong development steps. Amazon, YouTube and Netflix are three of the companies that use the most Internet bandwidth. Amazon sales hit a record 8,751 per minute; YouTube hits 4.14 million views per minute; while Netflix this year saw a 20% drop in views of their shows per minute compared to 2016.

The 2016 report also shows that more than 3.5 million text messages are sent every minute. In 2017, this number was 15.2 million messages, an increase of 334%. Besides, on average every minute, Google has 3.6 million searches, Instagram has 46,740 people posting pictures, and Spotify has 13 new songs.
