“Selfie” – taking selfies – has exploded and become mainstream in the last five years or so, but self-portraits have been around for a long time now. Sarah Burton of the BuzzFeed video channel questioned the origins of the selfie.

According to Burton, the first use of the word “Selfie” online was recorded in September 2002 by a user named “Hopey” , this Australian guy posted (on the website’s forum). ABC) a close-up photo of lips that were accidently drunk after his 21st birthday party.

According to information from the National Library of America, the first selfie taken in the US was the work of Robert Cornelius, taken in 1839. He stood still for about 15 minutes for the exposure process.

The world’s most expensive selfie taken in the 1850s has been sold for 115,000 US dollars (about 2.6 billion). It is a photograph of Oscar Rjlander – the famous Swedish avant-garde photographer. However, with a conclusion quite contrary to what is shown in the video (below), Burton believes that no one has actually invented the “selfie”, but it is the creation of mankind.
