According to experts, Damascus steel was used by the Middle Eastern people to forge good swords starting around 300 BC. This steel is manufactured from Wootz steel material originating from Asia. Damascus steel was commonly produced in the Middle East between 1100 and 1700. However, the technique of forging swords with Damascus steel was lost in the 18th century.
