Humans know what will happen within minutes after death

Scientists have found evidence that the human brain remains active for a short time after death – meaning people know when they’re dead.

The researchers discovered this by evaluating cardiac arrests in Europe and the US. People who have been resuscitated can narrate what happened, including conversations between doctors and nurses after their hearts stopped beating.

Humans know what will happen within minutes after death
The time a patient is declared dead is based on when the heart stops beating.

Dr Sam Parnia, who led the study, explains: “They describe observing doctors and nurses at work, having awareness of full conversations, about visual things going on that aren’t happening without being aware of what’s going on. otherwise they wouldn’t know. The time a patient is declared dead is based on when the heart stops.Technically that’s how long it takes a person to die.

After the heart stops beating, blood stops flowing to the brain and the brain begins to stop working. However, according to research, this process can take hours, leaving a time when a person is officially dead and still aware of what is going on around them.

A team of researchers from Stony Brook University School of Medicine, New York (USA), hope their work will help improve the treatment of cardiac arrest and prevent brain injury during resuscitation.

Dr Parnia added: “At the same time, we also study the human mind and consciousness in the context of death, to understand whether consciousness is destroyed or if it continues some time after death. time – and how does that relate to what’s happening inside the brain in real time.”

The question of what happens when we die remains one of life’s greatest mysteries, but research shows that there is some kind of life after death.
