This “treasure” was recently auctioned for a record number.
According to Express, this white porcelain cup with lid is intact but has a part of molten glass clinging to the side, which is a testament to the terrible nuclear bomb explosion.
The porcelain cup was slightly damaged after the atomic bomb explosion.
The cup reminds people of the terrible heat of the atomic bomb explosion that “evaporated” 150,000 people in 1945.
The porcelain mug is being put up for sale by auction house Henry Aldridge & Son of Devizes with an initial starting price of £1,000. But the final price was bought by an unnamed collector up to £ 3,250 (about 96 million).
Glass usually melts at 537 degrees Celsius while porcelain needs a heat level of up to 1,600 degrees to be subdued.
The shards of glass melted by the heat of the bomb explosion clung to the porcelain cup.
This porcelain mug was picked up by Allied soldiers a few weeks after the atomic bombing and Japan surrendered, ending World War 2. The porcelain mug was later sold to a British collector, along with many photos of the scene in Hiroshima.
The black and white photo shows the scene as in the apocalyptic scenario. High-rise buildings were flattened, and there was no one around. Another photo shows the earthquake-resistant metal frame, all the rest has been blown away.
Andrew Aldridge, a representative of Henry Aldridge & Son of Devizes auction house, said: “This porcelain cup is a testament to the tremendous destructive power of the atomic bomb.”
“If you want to know how much heat a bomb causes, look at the glass that clings to the porcelain. It has melted at a temperature of more than 500 degrees Celsius.
